Book Launch: The Canada-Israel Nexus
Journalist and author, Eric Walberg

Venue: A Different Booklist Cultural Centre, 779 Bathurst St. (at Bloor)

Eric Walberg’s latest book, The Canada-Israel Nexus is a close examination of the long history and parallels between the two state entities.  A central argument is that Israel recapitulates Canada’s colonial heritage, telescoping 300 plus years into 70 years, with important differences and lessons for both.

Nexus implies a core connection between the actors; from before Israel, the Jewish state, saw the light of day, and continue, ever closer, today. The labeling of “anti-semitism” threat has put any honest discussion of the true and the fake, the good and the bad of this important conversation off-bounds in the mainstream.

Nexus explores policy and public lobbies, media influence and western popular culture as powerful factors in the success of Zionism and Israel. Nexus closes with a discussion of how Judaism itself has been transformed by Zionism and the efforts of Jews and non-Jews alike to fight Zionism and help bring Israel to its senses. Followed by Q&A conversation.
