Closing of exhibit Passages III: Like Flesh and Blood

Tuesday, June 2, 2015 @ 7:00 pm

| $5

This is a closing event for Gita Hashemi’s exhibition, Like Flesh and Blood. The screening features the full-length video “Like Flesh and Blood,” juxtaposing the memoirs of Joseph Emin (1726-1809), an Armenian born in Iran and raised in Bengal, who traveled to Europe to garner support for Armenian liberation with contemporaneous events on Turtle Island. Emin’s journey unfolded during a period when European colonialisms were competing with one another and fast consolidating across Asia, Africa and the Americas, a time when settler states were growing out of merchant colonies. His accounts of his days as a migrant labourer – narrated by Naomi Binder Wall – is brought together with a fresh look at the history of Toronto, the land of the Mississaugas, from Indigenous perspective – told by John Croutch.

Naomi Binder Wall, John Croutch and director Gita Hashemi will be in attendance for conversation following the screening.
